About the job
DoorDash is hiring an experienced Senior Counsel, Privacy to help us build a best-in-class privacy program. This high visibility, high impact role will require close partnership with product, engineering, and business teams. In addition to building out our privacy program, you will counsel innovative products and services, advising on creative solutions that mitigate risk while unlocking business goals.
DoorDash’s Legal Team has built a reputation within the company for our highly collaborative and supportive approach to counseling, always with a bias for action. We are a diverse group of lawyers with a shared passion for providing creative and best-in-class service to our business partners. We go above and beyond to help accelerate and protect the business, and above all else, we value and respect each other as teammates. We’re looking for a team builder who can successfully work across the legal team, as well as the broader company. Join us!
As Senior Counsel, Privacy you will do more than advise; you’ll build. You will help build our global privacy program, working closely with technical stakeholders to devise solutions that maximize compliance impact while minimizing resource spend. You will build your expertise in U.S. and international privacy laws and become fluent in emerging legal frameworks governing artificial intelligence and automated decision-making. You will build bridges across the DoorDash organization, advising teams on a wide range of new product and feature launches.
We’re looking for someone who maximizes their impact by prioritizing what matters and driving results. Someone who creatively solves problems and exemplifies ownership by relentlessly driving toward solutions. Someone who feels comfortable quickly analyzing and clearly communicating tough risk-based decisions. Someone who gets it done, whether “it” is a one-off escalation or a 6-month project. If you need a challenge to accelerate your growth, we need you.
- Develop and maintain a privacy framework that ensures compliance with applicable domestic and international privacy laws along with best practices.
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that privacy is built into the design of new products, features, and business initiatives.
- Partner with the commercial team to ensure appropriate data protection provisions are incorporated into vendor, partner, and merchant agreements.
- Provide privacy advice to product and engineering throughout the development lifecycle to mitigate legal risks, respect consumer privacy, and advance business goals.
- Synthesize input from outside counsel, your own research, and feedback from internal stakeholders to provide practical guidance applicable to the teams you advise.
- Maintain up-to-date internal and external privacy policies.
- You work autonomously while exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
- You thrive equally on quick risk-based decisions and nailing big projects.
- You are technically fluent.
- You are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and have prioritized participating in DEI initiatives in past roles.
- You have a proven ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- You have a positive attitude and high EQ. No job is too big or too small!
- J.D. required, admitted to any state bar.
- 8+ years legal experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department, with a focus on privacy and data protection issues (prior in-house experience strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with global privacy frameworks and advising on privacy issues.
- Ability to autonomously drive results and make quick risk-based decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead, organize, prioritize, and manage projects effectively.
We expect this position to be filled by 11/25/2024.
