ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Population Health Impact Modeling at Juul Labs, Inc. means working with ambiguous questions, varied and messy data sets, and applying scientific and analytical methods to help inform and drive business, product, and policy decisions. We are looking for a Modeling and Simulation Scientist who can join our team of multidisciplinary researchers working on the design, development, validation and implementation of an agent-based model of population health. The Modeling and Simulation Scientist will be responsible for leveraging health, behavioral, clinical, and preclinical research, and computational modeling techniques to develop long-term models to evaluate the impact of tobacco, electronic nicotine delivery system, and JUUL use on U.S. and international populations. The Modeling and Simulation Scientist will simulate population dynamics over time and summarize large-scale simulation model outputs in ways that are easy to understand, and will communicate methods and outputs with technical and nontechnical audiences in regulatory filings, white papers, and articles. In this role, the Modeling and Simulation Scientist will help to fundamentally deepen our understanding of the impact our products have on consumers and their health on a macro scale via applied research, modeling, analysis and results synthesis. 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Testing, evaluating, and implementing models in MATLAB;
  • Generating, refining, and updating figures and tables summarizing model outputs in MATLAB, R or SAS;
  • Writing technical reports describing model development, algorithms, inputs, and outputs using Microsoft Word and EndNote; and
  • Writing journal articles, white papers, and presentations summarizing model development, implementation, and outputs using Microsoft Word (or TeX) and EndNote.
  • Collaborating with a cross-functional team to test, evaluate, and implement models;
  • Generating summaries of model outputs in a timely manner; and
  • Meeting deadlines to deliver technical reports, journal articles, white papers, and presentations.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 4-years or more experience with data analysis, agent-based modeling, machine learning, or system dynamics modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret simulation models and relevant outcomes
  • Excellent statistical programming skills using MATLAB, SAS and/or R
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with data visualization
  • Demonstrated experience writing and publishing peer-reviewed publications or technical reports
  • You get excited about taking ownership of problems and solving them in a fast-paced environment, working cross-functionally with both technical and nontechnical staff
  • Output-focused and see data science as a powerful tool to get things done rather than as an end in and of itself
  • Preferred strong foundation in statistical and mathematical modeling, probability, statistics, and causal inference
  • Preferred experience using Google Cloud Platform products and services

EDUCATION: 

M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or quantitative field including, but not limited to, Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Biomedical Science, Medical Engineering, Public Health, Economics.

SALARY RANGES:
Salary varies by role, level and location, and is dependent on the cost of labor in a given
geographic region among other factors. These ranges may be modified at any time.
